Further to the recent launch of the Westlaw HK Student Representative (WSR) Programme, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, Westlaw HK officially launched the 2010 programme in Hong Kong University on 21 January 2010, with the strong support of the Hong Kong University Library and in particular the Law Library.
Following advanced legal research training, the Westlaw HK Student Representatives for Hong Kong University were announced and introduced to their peers, and from today they will start sitting lab hours in the library to assist other students in legal research using Westlaw HK. At the launch, students who signed up for a lab session with the Westlaw HK Student Representatives were entered into a lucky draw for a Thomson Reuters laptop bag and Westlaw HK accessories kit.
Also unveiled was the new Westlaw HK Computer Terminal which has been installed by Westlaw HK at Hong Kong University. This terminal provides dedicated access to Westlaw HK for any student using the library, ensuring that regardless of how busy the Law Library is, there will always be one terminal where Westlaw HK will be available.
Westlaw HK would like in particular to thank the staff at the Hong Kong University Law Library for their dedicated support and enthusiasm for the programme and also for their efforts in setting up this event.
Also, thanks must go to the staff at Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong for their support in their respective WSR programmes.
At Westlaw HK we are proud to launch the first Student Representative Programme in Hong Kong. We have worked closely with the three major universities in Hong Kong to develop the programme and to select the first Westlaw Student Representatives.
This programme is especially important to us because it helps us to give something back to the legal community with whom we work so closely. By providing advanced training to the Westlaw Student Representatives, we are helping them to get a head-start in their legal careers. Equally, the overall programme enables them to provide assistance to their peers and thereby enhance the general understanding of Hong Kong’s graduating law students on how to perform online legal research. These are, after all, the trainees of the future who will be carrying out lots of the legal research for the firms in which they start to practice.
